Frequently Asked Questions

Will weather knock out my service?

Weather does not affect our wireless technology in the way it

Affects satellite delivered internet. Heavy rain will not knock

It out, nor will fog, haze or other common occurrences. In rural

Areas, the primary threat to any service is lightning and wind,

Which also will affect power, phone, or any utility.

Will my download speed get cut back after I download a certain amount?

We do not have a usage policy like satellite. Our area presences are set up

With far less people sharing bandwidth than a single satellite serving millions,

so no such policy is necessary. We do reserve the right to limit anyone who’s

computer contracts a virus, and uses resources as a result of it. This will

benefit all the other users, as such virus’s are often designed to deny  or

slow down service to users.

Can I buy online from sites like buy.com?

Some satellite services are blocked from sites such as this, since they cannot

Be verified to be in the US. This is not an issue with our service.

Why is the service more expensive than DSL?

DSL is delivered from a single point, normally the telephone office,

over existing lines. This single point serves a larger number of users

than a wireless point does.  Another factor is the mass production of

DSL equipment due to it’s use in metropolitan areas. The cost of DSL

equipment as a result is far less to deploy. DSL’s performance is restricted

by distance from this point, as well as the condition of the lines in between

your home and this point. It is also far less reliable, with virtually every

telephone pole being a possible point of failure. Telephone lines are not in

top condition in many rural areas. DSL uses old  infrastructure currently

in place and does not require investment to build new modern infrastructure.

DSL is limited to areas within a limited wire length from the “central office”

That serves your area, leaving many outlying areas unserved , or with poor

Performance.

How much better is your service than dialup?

Typically, our service will deliver internet 10 to 40 times faster than dialup.

How does your service compare to satellite delivered internet?

Satellite internet, while it can reach many places, has built in delay or

slowness due to the 22,500 mile hop up and down to the satellite. Land

based services such as ours do not have this problem. The speeds delivered

via satellite, especially outbound speed from your computer, are notably

worse than our land based service.

How reliable is your service?

Our wireless equipment used in rural areas was developed in Europe

and Asia, tested and designed for extremes of temperature and weather.

It is more reliable than any other technology in use. In addition, our

network is totally under our control, speeding any issue that would come up.

Our links have multiple paths in the event of failure at key points. Designs

in our network take into account icing, snow, and other factors.

When will you get service to my home?

SNEWISP is actively deploying equipment to serve as many as fast as possible.

We need to site repeaters in many areas to get signal into the typical rural terrain.

Call in and leave your address if interested, and engineers will certainly consider

your needs.

How much does it cost? (NOTE New pricing for Rural Areas!!

We currently offer two plans, that are price competitive with a good grade cable

connection, or satellite.

Base Residential Plan (RESIDENCES ONLY):  384k download  minimum             $49.00

Pro Residential Plan (RESIDENCES ONLY):  800K download   minimum             $59.00

Download/uploads are normally higher than these numbers.

One time installation:

(includes all configuration, and non wireless router)  $360.00

This pricing is all based on one year agreements. We are striving to lower the cost

long term. This may be assisted by a broadband initiative currently being considered

by the state.
